City’s Polling Places Will Be Open From 7 To 7 On Election Day

WATER VALLEY– The city’s four precincts will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19, for the special election for mayor. Candidates Donald Gray, Mickey Howley, Terry Rockette and Herbert Rogers will be on the ballot in the non-partisan election. If no candidates gets a majority of the votes on Dec. 19, the top two vote-getters will advance to a runoff on Jan. 9.

 

Absentee voting has already started and voters can cast their ballot early at city hall during business hours. City Hall will also be open on Saturday, Dec. 16, from 8 a.m. until noon, which is the deadline to cast an absentee ballot. 

In Mississippi, registered voters are eligible to vote absentee because of age, health or work demands, or their affiliation with the U.S. Armed Forces. For example, voters who will be outside their county of residence on election day are entitled to vote by absentee ballot.

Voting precincts in the election will the same as in the May Primary election – Ward 1 – city electric department, Ward 2 – Water Valley courthouse, Ward 3 – National Guard Armory, and Ward 4 – City Auditorium.

• Aldermen authorized the use of the county’s voting machines in the special election, which will eliminate hand counting the ballots. 

Municipal Election Commissioners in charge of the election along with City Clerk Vivian Snider include Bonnie Cox, John L. Hairston and Jerry Hill.
