School Registration Is Easier This Year

School officials are calling next week’s registration the spring registration special, as the process has been simplified with less paperwork. High school students (from left) Landon Turner, Nick Faust, Coulter Clement, Christian Cook, Lillian Lindsey and Zharia Harris urge all parents to take advantage of the registration dates on April 23 -25 to help make the start of the 2018-19 school year easier in August. – Photo by Susan Petty

WATER VALLEY – There is good news for parents when school registration gets underway next week at both schools in the Water Valley district, the amount of paperwork has been substantially reduced. Parents will be excited to learn that the new registration form is only one page, front and back, plus the student emergency card. The new form incorporates student information, bus information, previous school information, corporal punishment, a language survey and registration requirements on the single sheet.

Parents may be required to fill out additional forms, if needed, for medical needs such as asthma or food allergies or for medication. Parents of  kindergarten registrants also have to complete additional forms.

Counselors at both schools worked earlier in the year to streamline the process with input from the Water Valley School Board, who noted complaints about redundant information on forms during registration in prior school years.

Registration dates at both the high school/junior high and DES  are Monday, April 23, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.; Tuesday, April 24, from 3 to 6 p.m.; and Wednesday, April 25, from 3 to 6 p.m.

Parents must present two proofs of residency, per state law, for students attending public schools. Examples of permissible documents for documenting residency include a  driver’s license, mortgage agreement, lease agreement, current utility bills, current automobile registration, homestead exemption form or voter registration card.
