Dyre Is Speaker At August Historical Society Meeting

Mary Jo Dyre, sister of the late Arnold Dyre, will be the speaker for the Thursday, July 19, Yalobusha Historical Society meeting at 2 p.m. in its headquarters, the former Coffeeville Presbyterian Church.   Mary Jo’s topic is growing up with Arnold.  She is completing her brother’s Arnold Dyre’s unfinished novel, Dark Spots.  Refreshments are served afterwards, and visitors are welcome.


Annual Multi-Class Gathering Will Be Held During Carnival

The annual Water Valley High School multi-class gathering, held in connection with Watermelon Carnival, will be Friday night, Aug. 3, beginning at 7 p.m. in the meeting room behind the Little Professionals Day Care at 521 North Court Street. The event is planned and hosted by a group of former students from the 1960s. But, everyone who attended the Water Valley schools is welcome to attend. The emphasis is on the 1950s through the 1970s. There is plenty of parking and some RV hookups are available. The event will include a potluck supper and attendees are urged to bring purchased or homemade food to share. WVHS Class Of 1958 Will Have 60th Class Reunion 

The Water Valley High School Class of 1958 will have their 60th class reunion Saturday, August 4, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., with a luncheon at noon in the Woodland Hills Baptist Church’s Fellowship Hall. Bingo, Dance Planned This Weekend At VFW Post 4100

Bingo will be played at VFW Post 4100 on Friday night,  July 13. Doors open at 5 p.m. and games begin at 7. Music for the Saturday night dance on July 14 will be by the Bobby Hood Band  Everyone is invited to attend these events. Post 4100’s home is located at 11535, Highway 315, west of Water Valley.


Fundraiser Planned To Replace Roof At Community Club

 A gospel singing and fund raiser/auction is scheduled in the Gore Springs Community Center Saturday, July 14, beginning at 2 p.m. There will be great items for auction, spaghetti plates and other food for sale. All proceeds will go to replacing the metal roof of the Gore Springs Community Club.


Job Corps Will Have Open Enrollment At Local Libraries

The Batesville Job Corps Center will hold open enrollment beginning July 17 and continuing on the following third Tuesday of each month for the Coffeeville and Water Valley area.  Representatives will be at the Water Valley Library at 10 a.m. and the Coffeeville Library at 1 p.m. They are looking for young men and women that would like to start a career in various classes that the Job Corps has to offer free of charge. Church Will Give Away Clothes

New Providence M.B. Church will have clothes and other items to give away from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 14. The church is located off Highway 315, south on the Pope/Water Valley Road.”Hot dogs will also be given away,” stated Rev. Albert Booker, pastor of the church.


B.R.A.V.E. Girls Schedule Two Day Event 

B.R.A.V.E. (Bold, Remarkable, Admirable, Victorious, Empowered) Girls will sponsor “Let’s Talk,” a two-day session. The session follows the group’s inaugural Girl’s Conference on June 2 and many of the participants reached out to the committee members to have an one-on-one session. 

The interest sparked the organizers to host the two-day session. The girls will be able to come and have an hour session with a committee member of their choice. This event is scheduled  Friday, July 13 (1 to 6 p.m.) and Saturday, July 14, (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) at Bayson Chapel Church in Water Valley. You can register by going to Armisha Fondon’s Facebook page. Award-Winning Ventriloquist Will Perform At Oakland Library

  There will be fun for all ages when John Grayson Henderson and his family of puppets perform at the Oakland Public Library Friday, July 27, beginning at 3 p.m. John Grayson Henderson is an award-winning ventriloquist and also plays the violin. The program is sponsored by Friends of the Oakland Public Library and they state that you don’t want to miss this fun program.
