Historical Society Will Meet Jan. 17

The Yalobusha County Historical Society will meet Thursday, January 17, at 2 p.m. in its headquarters, the former Coffeeville Presbyterian Church.  Chris Morgan and Don Sides are the speakers.  Their topic is The Hamblett Hotel and its Family. Refreshments are served afterwards.  Visitors are welcome.


Weekend Activities At The VFW Include Dance, Bingo

 Activities at VFW Post 4100 this weekend will begin with bingo Friday night, January 11. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the games will begin at 7. The  Bobby Hood Band will provide music for the regular Saturday night dance on January 12, beginning at 8 p.m. and concluding at 12 midnight. The VFW is located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley.


Reunion Planning Meeting Scheduled For Class of 1969
 Members of the Water Valley High School Class of 1969 will meet at 6 p.m. on January 10 in the Fellowship Hall of First Christian Church to plan their 50 Year Reunion. Class members are encouraged to attend.


Deadline To Register For ServSafe Class Is Jan. 14

A ServSafe Food Certification Class will be taught January 29, beginning at 7:30 a.m. The certification exam will begin around 4 p.m. and should be completed by 6 p.m.  The class will be held at the Yalobusha County Extension Office in Coffeeville.  The Cost of the course is $140 and the deadline to register is January 14.

Eagle Survey Planned At Grenada

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Grenada Lake is asking for volunteers to assist with its mid-winter bald eagle survey scheduled Jan. 11 from 7:45 a.m. to noon. 

Volunteers will meet at 7:45 a.m. in the ranger conference room (across the road from the lake’s visitor center) and are advised to bring binoculars and dress appropriately for the weather. To assist with the survey, volunteers will be shown a short presentation intended to aid their efforts in distinguishing the birds of prey.
