Mt. Liberty News

I hope everyone has had a great week. We have been pretty busy as we count down for the All Saint’s Day festival on Nov. 2. We have a lot of fun and games planned and hope to see everyone there. There will be prizes for the kids, a cake walk, a time to light a candle for someone we have loved and lost, and much more. This will also be a time to celebrate those that gave their lives for our religious freedom. We hope you join us during this special event. The ladies have worked very hard preparing and Leigh Anne Coffey wants to say a special thank-you to them. These events would not be possible without the commitment from each person.

Leigh Anne reported a busy week. She went on a field trip to the Buffalo Park with Presleigh’s first grade class. They had a wonderful time. Then she and Mrs. Anne did some shopping and had lunch. Monday, she went to visit Gary Kelly in the hospital. Her husband, Garrett, is feeling better since his spider bite. He had a couple rounds of IV treatment and antibiotics and the swelling has finally gone down. He should not have any scarring.

Bro. Grant went to visit Mrs. Flora. We got to celebrate Taylor and Cody Person and Garrett and Molly Coffey as they had anniversaries last week. Maddy Tay Coffey celebrated her first birthday and Bro. Allen Dickey also had a birthday. Nannette and Jeff Wilson joined our family church family Sunday and we are so glad to have them.

Bro. Grant brought a great message Sunday morning. We started in 2 Corinthians 9:8. God is able to give us more than we need. John 6:1-14 is a story where Jesus gave more. A great multitude were following Jesus after seeing the miracles he had performed. Jesus wanted to feed them, about 5,000 people.

The disciples were saying they didn’t have enough to feed that many people. A boy there had 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. Have you ever felt that you didn’t have enough? Like in our story where Jesus had a plan, God has a plan in our lives. Not only did everyone eat, they got full. They had more than they could eat. They were blessed in excess. God gives us more than we need. He made us co-heirs with Christ. He blesses us abundantly. All we had when we came to Jesus was our broken hearts. He gives us eternal life. Our lives should glorify Him. We show up and God gives the increase. As in our story, God is able to make something out of nothing. God will multiply whatever you give Him. We don’t need more, we need God to bless what we have.

Sunday night we had our monthly music night. The ladies’ choir did a wonderful job. They are really coming together and sound beautiful. We appreciate everyone who brings a song. It is very hard to get on that stage and put yourself out there like that. Praise and worship is an important part of glorifying God. There is something about music that really brings in the Spirit. You can feel it moving within yourself. It takes very special people to have that kind of effect on someone.

We would also like to be in prayer for the Water Valley School district and the Purdy family during this difficult loss of Coach Jason Purdy. I did not know him personally, but he was one of my daughter’s favorite teachers last year, and I know this is a hard time for them. It is hard to understand why these things happen, but I hope they know they are in our thoughts and prayers.

During the All Saints event, I will be sure to light a candle in remembrance of Coach Purdy. From all I heard, he was a great teacher and Christian. It is important as a community to not just celebrate each other, but to mourn when necessary, with our fellow communities. We are told to not forsake the assembly. I believe that is more than just the church building, but our fellow Christians. Their celebrations are our celebrations; and their losses are our losses. Coach Purdy, thank you for the impact you had on my child and many others.

I hope you all have a wonderful week. May God bless you abundantly!
