WATER VALLEY – Voters across the country will head to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 5, to cast their ballot in the highly publicized presidential bid as Vice-President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump compete for the highest office in the land.
The ballot actually has nine candidates for president, a slate that includes four independents and nominees from the Libertarian, Green and Constitution parties. The ballot lists Harris at the top and Trump fifth in accordance with state law that requires nominees of political parties to be listed first and organized alphabetically by the candidates’ last names. After political party nominees, independent candidates are listed alphabetically by last name.
Others contested races on the Nov. 5 General Election ballot include a bid for United State Senate as Republican incumbent Roger Wicker is challenged by Democratic nominee Ty Pinkins; and a contested race for the 2nd
Congressional House District with Democratic incumbent Bennie Thompson and Republican nominee Ron Eller.
Uncontested races on the ballot include Supreme Court District 3 (Northern), Position 1 with incumbent Robert “Bobby” Chamberlin the sole candidate and Supreme Court District 3 (Northern) Position 2 with Jimmy Maxwell listed.
Yalobusha voters who live in supervisory districts one, three or five will also see an uncontested race for election commissioner. In District One, Colleen Craven is on the ballot; in District Three, Brad Willingham is on the ballot; and in District Five, Vivian Simmons is listed.
Yalobusha County Circuit Clerk Daryl Burney reports that the circuit clerk’s offices in both courthouses will be open Saturday, Nov. 2, from 8 a.m. until noon for absentee voting. He also reminds voters that they will vote at one of the 12 precincts in the county used for federal, state and county elections, which can be different from municipal elections when mayors and alderpersons are elected in Water Valley, Oakland and Coffeeville.
The county’s 12 precincts and the polls workers (including the RO, or return officer) are listed below. Poll workers are selected by the Yalobusha County Election Commissioners.
