I hope everyone is having a great week. Things have been good at Mt Liberty, we had our Thanksgiving fellowship Sunday. It was a lot of fun. We dressed as pioneer men and women. We got lots of great pictures. A huge thank-you to everyone who cooked and helped get things prepared. I’ve said it a million times, but a lot goes into putting a dinner like this together. It takes a team, and we’re truly blessed for the team we have.
Presleigh Person had a birthday Sunday. She turned seven. I just can’t believe how much she’s growing. I remember when her Mama was a little girl and now, she has a beautiful little girl of her own. The ladies sang Hallelujah Sunday morning and the young adults sang a special. They all did a wonderful job.
Bro. Grant Coffey brought a wonderful message Sunday from Matthew 16:24-28. Many people claiming to be Christians are just playing dress up. They get up and get dressed in their Sunday best and go through all the motions of being a Christian, but it’s just dress up. It’s a costume.
In the text Jesus is talking to the saved and the unsaved. There’s more to being saved than getting baptized. Jesus tells us of three things we are to do – deny ourselves, take up our cross daily, and follow him. First, to deny ourselves means to fully trust in God. His ways are not our ways. He knows what He’s doing. He knows what’s best for us. We are to do what is pleasing to the Lord and not our own satisfaction.
Second, we are to take up our cross daily. This is a big deal. You have to be willing to give up your life for him and as he gave his life up for you. We may have plans, and hopes, and dreams. But those plans may not be God’s plan. You may have to give those things up to follow the Lord. Jesus was crucified for us. We must be willing to crucify our selfish needs. Taking up our cross daily is a sign of devotion.
Third, we’re to follow him. This means to completely dedicate yourself to him. It is to stand up and tell a dying world that he comes first. We don’t find a place for God to fit in our lives. God should be first in our lives and it doesn’t matter what others may say. Jesus said blessed are those that are persecuted in my name. The road isn’t always easy, but God is with us every step of the way.
We didn’t meet Sunday night after the dinner. I went home and took a long nap. We stayed with Dr. Denman this weekend, so we were exhausted. I hope everyone has a wonderful week. Be safe if you have travel plans. And remember to thank God for all you have.
