Winners Selected For Masonic Lodge Fundraiser

WATER VALLEY – The annual fundraiser for the Water Valley Masonic Lodge #8 culminated with a drawing Monday afternoon at Larson’s Cash Saver. Cassandra Judson was the lucky winner of $300 in groceries, the grand prize in the raffle. Yolonda Pool won $200 in gasoline and Kelsey Walker’s winning raffle ticket garnered her $50 in cash. A customer in the grocery store, Mary Henderson, pulled the winning tickets out of a bucket.
“I was very surprised,” Judson said when she came to the store shortly after she was drawn. “I am going to use it for the holidays.”
Masonic members had been selling raffle tickets for weeks leading up to the drawing and Lavert Hawkins reported proceeds will help fund outreach projects in the coming year including a city clean-up, a Back-To-School give-away, I’m So Water Valley and other events. The lodge launched the first clean-up earlier this year, picking up litter on several miles along city streets in the Valley.
“We identified areas in town that needed attention and picked up several pickup loads of garbage,” lodge member Rogers Mayes added.
Next year the lodge members hope to coordinate with the city to expand the clean-up, and the funds raised will help promote the event.
Mayes reported the lodge has been active for decades, and merged with Lodge #48 to better serve the Water Valley community. The lodge meets at Spring Hill M.B. Church.
Hawkins also reported that Larson’s Cash Saver donated the groceries for the fundraiser.
“We are very thankful to Keith Larson,” Hawkins noted. “This store means everything to the community.”
