Water Valley gridiron standout Saveon “Sasa” Freeman has committed to New Mexico State University (NMSU) after playing two seasons for Northwest Mississippi Community College. Freeman graduated Magna Cum Laude in December from Northwest.
Freeman reported he was recruited by multiple colleges before committing to the Aggies where he will play defensive end. He arrived on campus Tuesday and started classes Wednesday.
Freeman is a 2023 graduate of Water Valley High School and played under Coach Brad Embry. During his senior season, he caught 21 passes for 340 yards and six touchdowns, helping lead the Blue Devils to a 6-5 overall record and the second round of the MHSAA Class 3A playoffs. Defensively Freeman had a total of 17 tackles and an interception during his senior season at Water Valley.
During his freshman year at Northwest in 2023, he played in eight games, recording eight tackles. Northwest recorded an overall 7-3 record and an appearance in the MACCC Playoffs. During his sophomore season in 2024, Freeman had 10 tackles as Northwest had a 10-2 season that resulted in division and conference titles.
Freeman is the son of Eon and Shedlia Freeman and grandson of Clay and Diane Freeman. His hobbies include working out and spending time with family.
