Water Valley Mayor Tommy Reynolds signed an agreement Friday with TVIfiber to bring high-speed internet to businesses and residences in the Water Valley Electric Department coverage area. With Reynolds are Ward 2 Alderman Freddie Folson, Ward 1 Alderman Ron Hart, TVEPA and TVIfiber CEO Brad Robison, Ward 3 Aldperson Bonnie Cox and Alderman-at-Large Herbie Rogers.
Water Valley Is First Community Outside Of TVEPA’s
Membership Area To Have The Opportunity For TVIfiber
WATER VALLEY – TVIfiber is excited to announce plans to bring fiber-based, high-speed internet to the citizens and businesses of Water Valley. Brad Robison, CEO of Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association (TVEPA) and TVIfiber, expressed his thanks to the Mayor, Board of Alderman and the Water Valley Electric Department.
“This collaboration marks a significant milestone in expanding access to reliable, affordable, fast internet and communication services for the community. The citizens of Water Valley deserve to not be left behind any longer in our digital era,” Robison said. “Water Valley is a strong, close-knit, vibrant community focused on continuing to grow and flourish while maintaining its small-town charm and appeal. Birthed from your local electric cooperative, TVIfiber shares these same values and is excited to partner with Water Valley to support your goals.”
Robison also noted that TVEPA appreciates a longstanding relationship with Water Valley as “neighbors helping neighbors.”
“It is this relationship that has guided us to this point where Water Valley is the first community outside of our membership area to have the opportunity for TVIfiber. TVIfiber is excited about this opportunity to unite our communities with even stronger connections and a brighter, more connected future,” Robison added.
Mayor Tommy Reynolds has been a driving force behind the initiative since taking office last February, advocating strongly for the implementation of fiber technology in the city. The mayor noted that TVEPA is a longstanding supporter of Water Valley through its electric services, and welcomes TVIfiber to the city.
“I am very pleased that TVIfiber is willing to give every homeowner and business in the Water Valley Electric service area the opportunity to receive high-speed, broadband, fiber internet. It is very important that every person in our service area be able to enjoy the same benefits and the quality of service from TVIfiber that others in our county currently receive. This is a tremendous benefit to our area,” said Mayor Reynolds.
“As you may recall, TVEPA, TVIfiber and the City of Water Valley agreed to partner to survey and inspect the existing City electric distribution system. This initial step was a very important undertaking to identify the areas where poles would need to be replaced to safely deploy and reliably operate TVIfiber’s state of the art fiber optic system,” Reynolds added.
Next Steps Toward Construction
Robison reported that TVIfiber has begun the design and engineering fieldwork phase of the project. This includes further analyzing existing infrastructure to ensure it is ready to support fiber deployment. Each utility pole will undergo a thorough inspection, and TVIfiber will submit detailed applications outlining any necessary upgrades to safely attach fiber lines. Once approved by the city, licenses will be issued, and construction will begin.
A Brighter Future for Water Valley
“This partnership represents a significant step forward for our community,” added Kagan Coughlin, Executive Director of the Yalobusha County Economic Development District. “Having a reliable internet connection is no longer a luxury, it is a crucial requirement for a community to survive and grow and TVIfiber coming to Water Valley will be game changing. Our industries will be able to grow their advanced manufacturing, our merchants will be able to process payments and expand retail presence through their online stores, our students will be able to access their class and homework resources, and our residents that work from home will find Water Valley to be a great place to grow their families and careers. This reliable connectivity will allow our residents to enjoy living in a small town while growing their businesses and careers on a global scale.”
TVIfiber reports to stay tuned for updates as this transformative project progresses.
