WATER VALLEY – VFW Post 4100 has added electronic gaming machines to help fundraiser efforts to help support veterans in the community. Post Quartermaster Mickell Dunn reported three machines have been placed in a new gaming room with expectations to add three more.
The machines are limited to a 50 cent or one dollar bets, and the maximum payout is $1,000. Each machine, similar to a slot machine, has 11 different games. Dunn reported the machines were previously in use in a prior location and are already paying out.
The gaming room is open from 4 until 10 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays and Thursday thru Saturday. Bingo is also scheduled on Mondays and Fridays, starting at 6 p.m. and continuing until around 10 p.m. The gaming room is in a separate area and will not impede Saturday night dances or bingo. You must be 18 years-old to enter the gaming room and machines only accept cash.
The kitchen at the post will be open with a full menu on Mondays and Fridays. A limited menu will be offered on other nights.
Dunn reported the gaming machines are another fundraising opportunity that will allow the post to provide support to community projects.
“During the last few years we have not been able to do a lot for the community,” Dunn explained about fundraising at the post.
The local post has continued financial support for the Mississippi Home, one of 42 single-family homes that compose the VFW National Home in Grand Rapids, Mich. The homes provide a refuge for veteran and military families.
“We are not going to let them falter or hurt,” Dunn added. “When they need something, we step up.”
The local post also provides support for veterans who reside at the MS State Veterans Home in Oxford with monthly games and refreshments.
“We go there every month to play bingo and poker with them and provide refreshments,” Dunn added.
Any additional funds raised by the local post are utilized for needs in the community with emphasis on veterans’ needs.
The post is located just outside Water Valley at 11535 Hwy. 315.
