Welcome back to Inside the Blue and White! It’s been a busy week, with students returning from spring break only to hit the ground running. We are in the homestretch of the school year, with only about 60 days until graduation and nine school weeks left.
Law and Public Safety had a big week back! First year students had the opportunity to go out to the Water Valley High School baseball field, splitting into teams to investigate a mock crime scene. Students used drones to investigate, locate, and describe evidence for this large scale “crime scene.”
Items of evidence included an explosive device, a handgun, and a victim (as well as other pieces of evidence located on and around the victim). They then sketched out and labeled a crime scene diagram, using mathematical formulas to determine the distances between pieces of evidence in relation to known points of the baseball field. They will follow this assignment up by writing a narrative report on what they believe happened based on the crime scene and their investigation.

Students in the Law and Public Safety Class participated in a life-saving CRP course. They are now nationally certified in infant, toddler and adult CRP and also learned how to operate an AED (automated external defibrillator).
Both first and second year students participated in a life-saving CPR certification course. According to the American Heart Association, approximately 150,000 to 200,000 lives are saved every year by this training. These students are now nationally certified in infant, toddler, and adult CPR as well as operating an AED (automated external defibrillator).
As part of the course, they also learned how to properly use a tourniquet and clear airway obstructions in infants, toddlers and adults.
Softball had a jam-packed week, taking on three different opponents. The team first traveled to Bruce High School on Tuesday night to face the Trojans. It was an unfortunate shut-out for the Blue Devils as they suffered a 12-0 loss. The team was back on the field Wednesday, traveling to Tunica to face Rosa Fort High School. Water Valley won in a 27-12 matchup, leaving the game victorious. The team hosted their last game of the week against the Independence Wildcats. Though they fought hard, the Blue Devils fell short, losing 21-8.
Baseball had a big week too, also playing three games. Also facing off against the Bruce Trojans on the road Tuesday, the baseball team won a close game, 9-7. They hosted the Trojans Friday afternoon, earning a big 12-1 victory. They hosted the New Albany Bulldogs at home on Saturday, and the action packed game went into extra innings. The Blue Devils emerged victorious, winning 19-18 after the close game.
Track took on the South Panola Invitational Meet on Saturday morning, finding a lot of success! Numerous athletes from both the high school and junior high teams placed in the top three in their event. Jayla Adams placed second overall for junior high, with a discus throw of 66-0. Akera White placed second overall in the 100m dash (13.02 seconds) and third overall in the 200m dash (25.35 seconds) during the meet. Akera is also ranked second in the state for the 200m dash.
Tylisha Hall, Akera White, Janiayah Gooch, and Jamaria Morgan placed third overall in the 4x100m relay, with a time of 53.39 seconds. The team has overall had a very promising season thus far, and I can’t wait to see where it takes them for the rest of the season!
Prom is approaching quickly, and seniors and juniors alike are getting ready for everything that comes with that! Making hair and nail appointments, picking out flowers, and making sure dresses and suits fit! And of course, making all the plans with friends for before and after prom. Taking place at the Powerhouse in Oxford, it’s sure to be a good time.
There’s a lot going on this week, so I will be sure to write all about!
