We got a good rain Sunday afternoon. David and I had been sitting on the porch watching the last of the company pulling out of the drive, and I told him that I saw a few clouds up in the sky and hoped they were rain clouds so I wouldn’t have to water my flowers. We didn’t get in the house good before it started pouring down rain.
Please pray for Kenny and Mike Parker and family. Ms. Elouise Parker, 93, passed away Aug. 5, 2025, at Providence Assisted Living in Grenada. What a wonderful, soft-spoken Christian lady who made the best caramel cakes I have ever eaten.
Please pray for the Peggy Brewer family of Athens, Alabama, and Tillatoba, Mississippi. Peggy lost her battle with cancer late Sunday night. God decided He didn’t want Peggy to suffer anymore, and He took her home. Prayers are being lifted for her family and friends.
Debbie and Tommy McCool made a trip to Leland last week to help Tommy’s sister, Patsy, move a hospital bed for her husband. There’s nothing like the help of a big brother, and Tommy is one of the best!
Lila Myrick went to visitation Saturday for Elouise Parker at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Home. Sunday, Lila visited with Shannon Manzo and Jordanna Twilley at Shannon’s home. Shannon and Lila used to sing specials at church.
Happy birthday to Ryan Donovan on the 13th; to Jordan McKinney on the 14th; to Barry Hoop on the 15th; to Will Tillman and Sherry Anderson on the 16th; to Charla Campbell on the 17th; to Marilyn Beardain on the 18th; and to Roseanne, Rose, and Roland Hartley on the 20th. May you all have a great day celebrating your birthday.
Martha Box says time is passing so fast that she is shopping for new running shoes to try to keep up! Thankfully, after months and months of recovery from her foot surgery, she is up and accomplishing more.
“Stopped making the to-do list. Now I just write the ‘Got It Done’ list, and it is growing more every day. Baked a caramel cake and a lemon blueberry cake for Kenny Parker’s family,” Martha said. “They celebrated the life of his mom, Mrs. Elouise Parker, Saturday. The service was exceptional. Grandgirls wrote and read a wonderful poem about their experience with Grandma!” Martha added.
Bro. Harris also brought a great message, followed by a delicious meal prepared by Tillatoba Baptist Church ladies.
“Wow, good cooks and loving care,” Martha said.
Martha had a great time dancing with a few good friends Saturday night. She is still unable to B-Bop yet, but her foot is healing enough to two-step for a moment.
Martha enjoyed a beautiful Sunday message at Pine Grove Baptist Church and visited there with Phil, Ginger, and the boys (grands). They celebrated Mrs. Margaret Simpson’s 96th birthday! Her family sang beautifully in church, and then after the wonderful meal.
“All those old songs sung by those gathered in the dining area reminded me of how folks used to gather on weekends and holidays. Every porch or inside would be full of happy folks singing ‘Where Could I Go but to the Lord’ or ‘I Want to Stroll Over Heaven with You.’ I know I can’t sing, but they had my heart stirred up and my mouth trying to sing!” said Martha.
Ginger Harrison said, “It’s been a good weekend. We enjoyed celebrating Mrs. Margaret Simpson’s 96th birthday at Pine Grove. We had a good lunch and then enjoyed an old-fashioned gospel singing.”
David and I visited the little ones Sunday afternoon — Haven Rose and Waylon Jr. Little Waylon has cut his first tooth, and I think it was bothering him because he was a little fussy. Maybe if he can cut some more this winter, it will be a lot easier for him.
