Creekmore Series Continues Tuesday With Rhoades

WATER VALLEY – The Hubert Creekmore Literary Reading Series continues Tuesday, November 4, with guest author Lauren Rhoades at Bozarts Gallery, 403 N. Main Street in Water Valley.
Rhoades will read from her recently published memoir, Split the Baby: A Memoir in Pieces, released in June 2025 by Belle Point Press.
A writer and editor based in Jackson, Rhoades is originally from Denver, Colo. She served with AmeriCorps, founded Mississippi’s first fermentation company, and later directed the Eudora Welty House & Garden. She currently serves as Director of Grants at the Mississippi Arts Commission and is a host of MPB’s The Mississippi Arts Hour. In 2022, she founded Rooted Magazine, a bestselling Substack publication exploring what it means to call Mississippi home. Rhoades holds an MFA in creative writing from the Mississippi University for Women.
The Creekmore Series features readings by Mississippi writers of prose and poetry on the first Tuesday of each month from October 2025 through April 2026. This year’s lineup includes:
The Series features readings by Mississippi writers of prose and poetry on the first Tuesday of each month from October through April. Along with Rhoades, the lineup includes Noreen Ocampo, a recent graduate of the University of Mississippi’s MFA program and author of There Are No Filipinos in Mississippi; Water Valley writer and teacher Sally Lott McLellan, author of Intersections: Finding Myself at Parchman Prison; Neil White, editor, publisher, and author of In the Sanctuary of Outcasts; fiction writer and UM instructor Caroline McCaulay; and award-winning prose writer Exodus Oktavia Brownlow, who is making a return appearance with exciting news about her recent work.
The event begins with doors opening at 6:30 p.m., open mic at 6:45 p.m., and featured reading at 7 p.m., followed by a Q&A.
