Faye Hartley said they had Mark a birthday party Friday night after Trunk or Treat at the church. She cooked a lot of food, as usual! Those attending were Faye, Kristie, Nathan, Rowland, Mary Brett and McLendon Hartley; Annie, Saylor and Emily Box. Lots of good food, fellowship, and presents. I know Mark loved all of those gifts—and of course, the good food!
Visiting with your writer and David this week was our friend Larry Franklin of Hardy, who shared the sad news of losing his father, A.C. Franklin, who was in a nursing home in Kentucky. Larry had lost his mother, Wynette Franklin, just three months ago. Love and prayers for the Franklin family.
“My friend, I am still here,” says Martha Box. I wake up singing, “Thank you, Lord.” Then it’s “Why me, Lord—what would You have me do today?” So glad He hears my moaning!
Martha said nothing exciting or accomplished this week. Candy Box’s birthday was on the 29th. She told her age, so I said, “Yeah babe, I was only seven when I adopted you when you were 21!” Lol! The first Box girl born in 26 years—spoiled rotten by all those Boxes!
“So, I am now cooking for her birthday gathering,” Martha added.
Martha said she had a great visit to Tillatoba Baptist Church Sunday. “I tell you, even those beautiful, happy children felt the spirit! It sure lifted me up,” she said. “Bro. Ricky shared the truth under the power of the Holy Ghost!”
Tommy and Deborah McCool spent the weekend in Leland again. Alice Kellum went with them, of course. Tommy was finishing up repairing his sister Patty’s car. He had to order a couple of parts and then find time to get down there and put them on.
“We came back Sunday after he made sure everything was running good for her,” Alice said. Patty’s husband is still in rehab at the Cleveland hospital.
Faye Hartley has already started taking orders for her famous rolls and bread for Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. If you’ve never had any, you’ve missed out! Faye said she wouldn’t be able to make as many as usual since her surgery in September, so get your orders in now. I bet before it’s over, she’ll be in that kitchen making rolls and bread like she’s never had surgery.
Our friend Susan Bell of Caledonia called Friday afternoon and asked if we felt like having company for Saturday night and Sunday. We always enjoy Susan and Phillip’s visits. They had been to the Sweet Potato Festival in Vardaman and brought a sample plate of things made with sweet potatoes—including a delicious sweet potato pie, red beans and rice, and cornbread muffins that Phillip made. It was all so good, including the sweet potato punch!
Julie Kerr and Doris Chastain went to see The Toast concert and had their picture made with the band. I know those were two excited girls!
Happy birthday to Trinity Hardin on November 3; Emily Little on the 4th; Margie Crawford on the 5th; Gary Chambers on the 7th; Sam Pullen and Clay McFerrin on the 9th; Jackson Jarrell on the 10th; and Diane Dukes, Rosemary Irby, and Harvey Starnes on the 11th. I hope all of you have a blessed day celebrating your special day!
Thought for the Day: They say with age comes wisdom. Therefore, I don’t have wrinkles—I have wise cracks!
