WATER VALLEY — Water Valley senior pitcher Allen Paysinger took the next step in his baseball career Friday morning, signing a letter of intent to play at Mississippi Delta Community College. The Nov. 21 ceremony was held in the Water Valley High School gym with teammates, classmates, coaches and family attending. His parents, Rachel and Jason Paysinger, and his brother, Andrew, joined him at the signing table.
Head Coach Cole Camp called the moment a meaningful milestone for both Paysinger and the Blue Devil program.
“Allen has been a prominent factor in our success these last few years,” Camp said. “He embodies everything we want — toughness, competitiveness and being a great teammate. I’m really proud of him and excited for his future.”
Paysinger, who has played baseball since he was four, said the day represented the fulfillment of a lifelong goal.
“This day means I’ve taken the next step in my baseball career,” he said. “I’ve always loved the way we do baseball at Water Valley, and I’m glad to make it to this point and go to a JUCO.”
Last season brought adversity after an off-field injury sidelined him for half of the season, but Paysinger said the challenge only deepened his commitment to the sport.
“I’ve had hard times and great times in baseball,” he said. “But I’ve loved it ever since I started.”
He also said Mississippi Delta’s facilities and new coaching staff made a strong impression during his recruitment.
“They’re getting new dirt on the field, a padded wall, a new training room and a new weight room,” Paysinger said. “The coaches are both from Southern Miss, and I loved what they’re building down there.”
Camp expects Paysinger to remain a key piece of the Blue Devils’ lineup in his senior season this spring.
“I’m expecting the same thing he’s given us the last three years,” Camp said. “He’ll be a big component on the mound and in the middle of the order. Every expectation he carries, he’s earned.”
Paysinger said his focus for the spring is clear.
“I’ve got to help my team any way possible,” he said. “The goal is to go as far as we can and find a way to win it all.”
He plans to study either criminal justice or mechanical engineering and is exploring a possible career as a blood-spatter analyst.
Camp, who has coached Paysinger during all of his school years, said watching his growth has been one of the rewarding parts of leading the program.
“He embodies everything we’re trying to build,” Camp said. “He elevates the guys around him.
It’s a great day for him and a great day for our program.”
