Hello and welcome back to Inside the Blue and White! After a long Thanksgiving break, I’m back with more exciting news from the halls of Water Valley High School.
Basketball was busy last week, especially for one of our students, Aaden Reed. On Dec. 5 against West Tallahatchie, Aaden hit a major milestone by reaching 1,000 career points for the basketball team.
“I’ve been playing basketball for nine years. I started actually playing when I was in third grade,” Aaden said. “Hitting 1,000 points was amazing, and it was a goal that I set when I started playing varsity basketball in eighth grade. Seeing it come to reality feels amazing. Just putting in hard work throughout the years and knowing it was possible. I’m hoping good things come out of my senior year. Winning the 2A district championship and going to the Big House to win the state championship is the ultimate goal for me and my team this year. I would love to give a shoutout to God, all of my coaches and my family for believing in me and getting me to where I am now.”
We are so proud of you, Aaden. I hope to see you do big things!

Water Valley students Skylar Jordan and Cohen Hart participated in the Mississippi Band Directors Association Honor Band
Last week, two Water Valley students, Skylar Jordan and Cohen Hart, had the honor of participating in the Mississippi Band Directors Association Honor Band. They spent Thursday and Friday rehearsing with talented musicians from across the state and delivered an outstanding performance during Saturday’s concert.
Coach Vaughn Daniels earned his Master of Education in Educational Leadership, graduating summa cum laude. Adding to the excitement of the day, he learned just moments before walking across the stage that he had also passed the School Leaders Licensure Assessment, making an already special achievement even more memorable. I’ll be sure to bring you a coffee to congratulate you!
The band also held its Christmas Band Concert. This year, our bands have leveled up in every way, and that concert proved just how much talent and growth they’ve shown. All three bands did a great job, and Mr. Brown was enthusiastic and proud of his students. The entire audience was on fire!
Our powerlifting teams traveled to Grenada Middle School for a meet this past weekend. The girls competed on Friday, followed by the boys on Saturday. Drake, Miles, Sneaky, Jay, Austin, DJ Bounds and Mathew all placed in their respective events. Overall, it was a great meet that provided valuable first-time experience for younger lifters and solid practice for more experienced competitors. Schools in attendance included Grenada High School, Grenada Middle School, Lake Cormorant and Water Valley.
That wraps up this week’s news from the halls of Water Valley High School. Thank you for reading, and I hope you’ll come back next week for our final update before Christmas break. I’ll catch y’all next week!
