WATER VALLEY — The Water Valley High School Marching Band is experiencing a period of growth, but that success has created a new challenge: a shortage of uniforms for the upcoming marching season.
According to band director Wesley Brown, the band has grown to the point that there are not enough uniforms for all students to perform next year. To ensure every band member can take part in the marching season, the program is seeking community support to purchase new uniforms.
“This is a very exciting time for our band program,” Brown said. “Our students are working extremely hard, and we want every one of them to be able to participate.”
Each marching uniform costs $250 and includes bibbers (overalls), a jacket, a shako (hat) and a plume. The band’s overall fundraising goal is $20,000, which would allow the program to outfit all student musicians for next season.
Brown said students have already been working to raise funds, but additional community support is needed to reach the goal. Individuals may choose to sponsor a single student by covering the cost of one uniform or contribute any amount toward the overall fundraiser.
Donations may be made at the front office of Water Valley High School, located at 550 Market St. in Water Valley. Donors are asked to specify that their contribution is intended for the Water Valley Band.
Local businesses interested in sponsoring the band or exploring recognition opportunities may also contact the school for additional information.
Brown said community support plays a vital role in sustaining the band program and providing students with opportunities beyond the classroom.
“Your sponsorship will be sincerely valued and will have a meaningful impact on our students,” he said.
