Courthouses Will Be Open Saturday For Voter Registration
Mississippi voters will head to the polls on March 10 for the state’s congressional and U.S. Senate primary elections.
Yalobusha County Circuit Clerk Daryl Burney reported voters who are not already registered must register by Feb. 9 to be eligible to vote in this primary. The circuit clerk’s offices in the Water Valley and Coffeeville courthouses will be open Saturday, Feb. 7, from 8 a.m. until noon, for voter registration.
In the Second Congressional District, which includes Yalobusha County, three candidates are seeking the Democratic nomination. They are incumbent Bennie G. Thompson, who has represented the Second Congressional District since 1993, Evan Littleton Turnage and Pertis Herman Williams III.
Two candidates are competing in the Republican primary for the Second District seat, Ron Eller and Kevin Wilson.
Winners of the Democratic and Republican primaries will advance to the November general election. Bennie Foster has qualified to run as an independent in the general election and will not appear on the March primary ballot.
Voters will also cast ballots in party primaries for a U.S. Senate seat.
Republican incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith is seeking a second full term in office. Hyde-Smith was appointed to the Senate in 2018 and later won a special election that same year, followed by reelection in 2020. Challenging Hyde-Smith in the Republican primary is Sarah Adlakha, a physician.
On the Democratic ticket for the Senate seat are Scott Colom, Albert R. Little, and Priscilla W. Till.
Ty Pinkins is running as an independent candidate for U.S. Senate and will appear on the November general election ballot.
If no candidate receives a majority in a party primary, a runoff election will be held April 7.
