Hello and welcome back to another week of Inside the Blue and White! We are another week closer to graduation! The seniors are checking final details off their checklists!
Members of the Annual Staff recently traveled to the University of Mississippi to attend the MSPA Journalism Convention. While there, students had the opportunity to participate in several sessions designed to help them improve their journalism and publication skills. Throughout the convention, they learned about topics such as publication marketing, gathering stories within their community, sports writing, and other important aspects of journalism. These sessions gave students valuable insight into how to better create and promote their school publication. The trip also allowed the staff to connect with other student journalists from across the state and gain new ideas they can bring back to Water Valley High School. The experience helped the team grow their skills and prepare to continue producing quality work for the school.

Prom week is finally here, and Water Valley High School wants to make sure every student gets home safely after a night of celebrating. To help spread this important message, students recently experienced a powerful and eye-opening prom wreck simulation. The event was made possible through the collaboration of our local police department, fire department, coroner, Wings, and several dedicated community volunteers who came together to make the demonstration as realistic as possible. The simulation was designed to show the very real and serious consequences of impaired and distracted driving, especially during prom season when many students are out celebrating. A staged crash scene was set up, allowing students to witness firsthand the chaos, urgency, and emotional impact that accidents like these can cause. First responders acted out the steps they would take in a real emergency, from providing medical care and rescuing those involved to securing the scene. Students watched as emergency personnel worked quickly to treat the injured and remove victims from the vehicles. The presence of the coroner also reminded everyone of the heartbreaking reality that some accidents do not end with everyone walking away.
This demonstration served as an important reminder to all students to make safe choices during prom week and beyond. Whether that means avoiding distractions while driving, never getting behind the wheel impaired, or making sure to have a safe ride home, the goal is simple: making sure every student returns home safely after prom night.
Baseball and softball both took on Strayhorn this week in district play. The baseball team played on Wednesday and lost a close game with a final score of 10-9. They faced Strayhorn again on Thursday and once again came up just short in another close 10-9 game. The softball team also played Strayhorn and came away with a strong 9-7 victory. They returned to the field on Thursday but suffered a tough loss to Strayhorn. Despite the outcome, the team fought hard and showed determination throughout the game.
