Mt. Liberty News
By Melissa Brooks
I hope everyone has had a wonderful week. Things have been pretty good in our area. Saturday Emily and I went to the Fountain Square Inn for the Walter/Dowsing Scholarship banquet. Emily received the Butler McLeod and the Walter/Dowsing scholarships. She was asked to read an essay and did a wonderful job. We had a wonderful time at the banquet. It was a good Christian fellowship with great entertainment and an excellent dinner. The guest speaker was Congressman Bennie Thompson. There is really just too much to write about. I encourage you all to look into how you can help this scholarship program. It is an amazing event.
Sunday morning was a great Spirit-filled day to be in the Lord’s house. Little Grogan Tate Person blessed us with an awesome performance playing his guitar during praise and worship time. He is such a great little guy. We all love him and he keeps us entertained every Sunday with his antics. He has such a great little personality. Bro. Grant brought us a great message starting in John 5:39. Jesus is talking in this verse and he says, “you study the scriptures diligently because you think in them you have eternal life. These are the very scriptures that testify about me.” The pharisees are going through the scriptures to prove Jesus is wrong in some way and Jesus is telling them that he is the one the scriptures are telling about. Jesus is not like any other man that ever lived. He is the true greatest of all time. We read one example of that in Mark 4:35-41. Jesus and the disciples are in a wooden boat with a storm blowing in. Jesus is asleep after teaching all day. The disciples are scared as the water is coming into the boat and wake Jesus asking him if he cared they were about to drown. The problem is, they were worried about the storm and not putting their faith in who was in the boat with them. Jesus told the storm to stop and it did. The same Jesus that calmed to storm is the same Jesus we have in our hearts. He can calm whatever storm is going on in your life. Jesus is the word made flesh. If we will stop looking at the height of the waves and look at who our Saviour is, the storm doesn’t seem as big. The game changes when Jesus is in our boat. He is not overwhelmed by the things that overwhelm us. The scriptures reveal to us over and over again that Jesus is the greatest of all time.
It was an amazing message to hear and very uplifting. Although little Tate stole the show Sunday morning, Bro. Grant did a great job on the message. We were happy that we had a couple young visitors Sunday morning and look forward to seeing them again. If you’re looking for a home church, we invite you to join us. Services start at 11.
