OAKLAND — The Yalo-Ribbon Festival had a special guest Saturday.

Miss University Cameron Davis attended at the invitation of Sue Smith, who caters for the Ole Miss Rebelettes, of which Davis is a member. Davis, a junior psychology major from Meridian, is the 77th Miss University and will represent the University of Mississippi at the Miss Mississippi competition in June.

“I’m here to share my story and my journey,” Davis said during the festival.

Davis is preparing for Miss Mississippi, which includes interview, talent, fitness, evening gown and on-stage questions.

The Herald gave her a pop quiz to see if she is ready for the competition:

Q&A With Miss University

What are you most excited about as you prepare for Miss Mississippi?

“The opportunity to represent Ole Miss. It’s brought so much to me. And I’d love to represent Mississippi on a national level.”

What is most important for you when you compete for Miss Mississippi next month?

“I think just staying true to myself. I know my values and what I stand for, and being confident in what I have to offer. A lot of times you think you have to fit a certain mold, but they’re looking for someone who can best represent the state. I’m going to do my best, and if what I have to offer represents Mississippi, then hopefully I’ll get that opportunity.”

What’s your talent for the competition?

“I’ll be dancing to ‘Baby I’m a Star’ by Prince. I’ve been dancing since I was three.”

What do you hope people take away from your story?

“That you don’t have to fit a certain mold. Just be yourself and go after what you want.”

What do you want to do after graduation?

“I’d love to work as a clinical psychologist in a children’s hospital. I love working with kids.”

How many wins will the Rebels earn this year?

“I think we can do better than we did last year. I know a lot of people had doubts after our previous coach left, but I love Pete Golding. Hearing the players talk about how they’re rallying around him and the team, I think the sky’s the limit. Hopefully I’ll get to attend a national championship this year.”

And one more — when Mrs. Sue caters for the Rebelettes, what do you enjoy the most?

“Breakfast,” she said. “Breakfast is my favorite meal.”
