Happy Fourth of July!
It was a great day in the neighborhood Saturday for Kat Benson and Junior Dukes. Junior proposed to Kat, and she said yes!! We are all so happy and excited!
Brandon McClanahan of Jackson visited his dad, Freddie Wayne, his uncle, Bobby Joe, and other relatives Sunday. “It’s always good to see him,” said his aunt, Lila Myrick.
Martha Box says life goes on with us trying to do as we used to. “I had to change my ‘Get Up and Go’ to my ‘Can’t Get It Done’ days.”
Martha is waiting on granddaughter Marissa Jackson to have that baby! She’s planning for July 2.
Martha reported a wonderful church service at Willow Springs Sunday.
“What an encouraging message. And you know I so love to hear my loved ones sing. Happy 61st anniversary to Pastor Tommy Darby and his lovely wife, Sis. Sherry! Together they work so well for the church.”
Your writer’s neighbors, J.R. Dukes and Ashley Julian, have been busy lately catching a lot of big bass! They should have that freezer about full.
Thank you, Scotty and Stephanie Chambers, for the tomatoes. We enjoyed them on sandwiches and in a salad.
Diane Dukes reports George P. Cossar State Park will have a “250 Years of Freedom Celebration” on Saturday, July 4.
Buckley Shaved Ice will be there helping cool everyone down with some delicious flavors.
Darlene’s Sweet Treats will be there with her mini cake bar. You pick your chocolate or vanilla cake, frosting and toppings.
Also, John Luke’s 3D Creations will be there. Come on out and enjoy some treats and celebrate with us, says Diane.
The park is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If anyone is interested in being a vendor, please call the park at 662-623-7356 and press 2.
There is no vendor fee.
“We are hoping everyone will come out and help us celebrate and enjoy the park,” Diane added.
Kat Benson and family members enjoyed a trip to Disney World this past week.
Adam Chambers has been fighting an 8mm kidney stone for about a month, and it got worse. He was scheduled for surgery Monday, the 22nd. Surgery went great thanks to Dr. Straughan, a very nice man. Adam came home with stents and in a lot of pain.
They made it until Thursday, the 26th. It was time for the stents to be removed. He said their “little ducks weren’t definitely all in a row that morning.”
They made it past the Tillatoba Creek bridge, and Adam said, “Are you kidding me? We had a flat on my brand-new vehicle on the interstate. The valve stem just broke.”
They had to be rescued by Adam’s mom, Jennylou Chambers. Dale and Claude Dorris had to put his spare on because Adam couldn’t lift anything.
Sunday, the 28th, Adam was feeling better, so we decided to go to Sam’s in Madison. Before we went to Sam’s, they ate at The Half Shell Oyster House in Madison and reported it was delicious.
John Box went to Missouri and bought a nice truck. I know your sweet wife, Arica, is proud, as well as your sister-in-law, Jacque Chambers.
Happy birthday to Dixie Fernandez, twins Brad and Brian Holliday, and Kathy Dukes on July 3; Linda Wilkes and Bart Haltom on July 4; Amanda Ferguson on July 5; and Scott Wolfe, my Texas friend, on July 6.
I pray you all have a wonderful day and lots of cake and ice cream.
