Heath and Monique Horan, along with their son, Jackson, are putting the finishing touches on Parlor 1858 Pizza & Social House at 407 N. Main St. The family expects to open the restaurant as soon as renovations and final permitting are complete.
WATER VALLEY – For Heath Horan, opening a restaurant in Water Valley isn’t just the start of a new business. It’s the fulfillment of a hometown dream.
A Water Valley native, Heath returned home 11 years ago with his wife, Monique Horan, originally from Las Cruces, New Mexico, to raise their son, Jackson, surrounded by family and the close-knit community they love. Together, the couple has spent a combined 48 years in the hospitality industry, quietly carrying a dream that one day they would open a restaurant of their own in downtown Water Valley.
That dream is now becoming reality.
When Parlor 1858 Pizza & Social House opens its doors at 407 North Main, the Horans hope it will be more than just another place to eat. They envision it as a gathering place where families celebrate birthdays, little league teams fill the tables after games, friends meet for dinner, couples enjoy date nights and neighbors feel at home.
“We wanted to create the kind of place we’d be proud to bring our own family and friends,” the Horans said. “A place that’s welcoming, relaxed, and built around community.”
Getting there has truly been a labor of love.
Over the summer, countless family members and friends have pitched in, moving heavy equipment, painting walls, adding texture, offering professional advice and lending helping hands wherever needed. The Horans say the restaurant wouldn’t be where it is today without the generosity of those who believed in their vision.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support,” they said. “Every brushstroke, every late night, every helping hand has reminded us how special this community really is.”
The menu will feature classic and specialty pizzas, the beloved salad bar many locals remember, and a full menu designed to offer something for everyone. Guests can also enjoy craft beer, a thoughtfully curated wine list, cocktails and mocktails.
Drawing on years of hospitality experience and Monique’s Southwestern roots, the restaurant will introduce unique menu offerings, including Hatch green chile specialties, along with high-protein options and seasonal features.
Beyond food, the Horans hope Parlor 1858 becomes a destination where the community can gather for weekly entertainment while celebrating the rich history, creativity and talented artists of Water Valley.
Even the restaurant’s name tells a story.
The name “1858” honors the year Water Valley was established, while “Parlor” is a nod to the classic neighborhood pizza parlors where generations gathered around a table.
The lamp featured in the logo carries even deeper meaning.
To the Horans, it represents the porch light left on to welcome family home. It symbolizes a guiding light through difficult seasons, the warm glow of a lamp around a dinner table where stories are shared, and a reminder that each of us has an opportunity to brighten the lives of those around us.
“It’s a symbol of hospitality,” they said. “We hope every person who walks through our doors feels welcome, valued and leaves just a little brighter than when they came in.”
Parlor 1858 Pizza & Social House is expected to open as soon as renovations are complete and all final permits have been received.
Until then, the Horan family remains hard at work, putting the finishing touches on a restaurant they hope will serve Water Valley for many years to come.
