To the Editor,
The other evening we were sitting out back in the quiet damp after a rain shower thinking what are we gonna do about all this?
Tate has an answer. Data Centers.
We don’t have to hear the birds calling or suffer all those puddles. Data Centers will scare away all the birds and suck up all the water.
Many of our fellow Mississippians, Democrats and Republicans, aren’t bothered by the quiet around this issue except for those bitter few who just seem to hate the billionaire buddies of future Senator Tate Reeves.
When I paddle peacefully around Wildcat Brake or some Yocona backwater, I think I don’t need all this water for my skinny boat and when those big bass, bass boats, beavers or gators break water way over yonder, they scare me. Thankfully, a data center’s non-stop, semi-muffled giant turbines will drown out all that scary splashing while sucking up all the water, so I can paddle, pole or plod through the new mud flats in peace.
Which is probably why our foresightful Governor Tate feels we don’t need human health care but we need massive AI centers.
If we don’t have jobs we will bathe less, procreate less, die quicker (old folks and their daytime tv and hvac, am I right?), which equals more water and electricity for the massive AI centers. Win-win for the tech trillionaires’ Tater team.
They may be right to think Mississippi has a lot of land that is wasted on agriculture and just plain culture that would seem more profitably spent on technology.
So I accept that we are going to be replaced by robots.
We elect our leaders from “reality” TV shows. We watch movies, interact with businesses, do our banking, heck, some people have friends, entirely composed of computer-generated actors.
I can imagine a future where the only real humans we might meet are delivery people and coroners. On one of the worst days of your life, do you want to look up and see Elon Musk or Ronnie Stark at your door?
