For all the school and college students, children and teachers getting ready to start school, or who already started this week, I pray you have a safe and successful year.
It’s hard to believe Christmas will be here in just five months. The way the weeks are flying by, we’ll be singing “Jingle Bell Rock” before you know it.
Congratulations to J.R. Dukes and Ashley Justin. Ashley graduated from nursing school at Ole Miss, and she and J.R. recently got engaged. What a beautiful ring she is wearing.
“Wow wee,” Martha Box said as she woke up Sunday morning and walked outside, thanking Our Lord for leading and guiding her each day.
“He did!” Martha said. She arrived at Willow Springs Assembly of God just in time, where the Holy Spirit took over the planned sermon. She reported it was a wonderful worship service for everyone in attendance.
“Jesus is our Leader, our Healer and our Savior and knows our needs always. He keeps me keeping on,” Martha said.
“No other real exciting news this week. Wanted to paint a picture, run five miles and create a keepsake, but hey, at least I cleaned out many years’ worth of paid-off, sold and no-longer-needed files!”
Mike and Rhonda Hailey of Houston visited Festus, Ruth Jane and Amanda Hailey on Friday.
Wednesday night, your writer and David Deck met Francesca and Bradley Holliday and Donna Garripoli at the Chinese restaurant in Grenada for David’s birthday dinner. Frankie made him a homemade carrot cake from scratch. It was delicious, and I could tell from the first bite that it was homemade. It was so moist and flavorful.
Sadie Harper wishes she could say she had a good week. She ended up at the doctor with an earache and learned she has an inner ear infection.
“I put drops in twice a day. Something bit me on my arm, and it’s red and puffy. I’m putting hydrocortisone cream on that and arthritis cream on my knee,” Sadie said.
The best news is that Sadie’s husband, Milton, is walking with a walker and doing much better. He has an orthopedic appointment Thursday, and we pray the X-ray shows his pelvis is healing.
Lila Myrick is scheduled to see her new eye doctor in Oxford on Tuesday. She is receiving injections in her eye.
Freddie Wayne McClanahan remains a patient at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford, but he is doing much better and is hopefully headed home soon.
Happy anniversary to Greg and Karol Knowles on Aug. 5.
Celebrating birthdays this week are Logan Deck and Lee Ann Howe on Aug. 6; Cheryl Franklin on Aug. 7; Priscilla Tillman and Benjamin Tillman on Aug. 8; Wesley Melton and Phillip Cordell on Aug. 9; Christy Reeves and Mark Martin on Aug. 10; and Gina Bray and Jared Robinson on Aug. 12. I hope you all have a wonderful time celebrating!
