Hi everyone! I am so excited to be introduced as your current writer of “Inside the Blue and White.” My name is Edee Henderson and I am currently a senior at Water Valley High School. I am a member of the softball team, as well as Beta Club, and former editor of the Valley Views Yearbook. I have always loved reading the North Mississippi Herald with my grandfather after school every Wednesday, so being able to write for the paper is a huge honor to me. One of my favorite memories about The Herald was being able to read “Mrs. Betty’s Week” and hear all about what was going on in town, I aspire to be just like her one day! Her style, diction, and creativity sparked something in me to not be traditional, and to take pride in what makes me happy.

To begin, Water Valley schools were back in action on Tuesday, Aug. 4. The seniors kicked off the start of the school year with a senior breakfast at the Activity Center. Students filled up on breakfast and talked amongst friends and families, discussing where all the time had gone. The seniors then had their annual parade, led by Officer Chris Pullen, which took us to start off our first day as seniors! What an exciting day. Other students came dressed in their absolute best and of course, had photo shoots before school.
With school starting, that means fall sports are right around the corner. The Lady Devil Volleyball team kicked off their season Monday, Aug. 3, against Grenada. The Lady Devils are under a new head coach, Gunner Nichols. As score keeper for the volleyball team, I might be a little biased but these athletes are so fun to watch and I recommend coming out to a few games! The golf team also kicked off their season opener at Yalobusha Country Club. Eighth grader Aubree Tucker shot an impressive 49 on 9 holes of golf. I am looking forward to going to a match soon.
Straying away from school, students have had eventful summers filled with traveling, sports, hanging out with friends, and much more. My summer consisted of a lot of working, hanging out with my best friend, Bentlee Tucker, and spending some much needed time at the house with my family. Playing sports definitely took some time away from my schedule, but I am thankful to have the team and coaches I do to make practice fun. Most people say you cannot live in a small town and have fun, but I beg to differ. Some of my best memories from the summer are in Water Valley, riding around with my friends, hanging out at the carwash, or Sonic. Needless to say, I love my town and I am so thankful to live here!
Since it is only the first week of school, everyone is adjusting back to the swing of things. I am so excited for all sports, events, and cool things I will cover for you all. Once students get back into their daily routines, more of an inside scoop will be provided. But for now, I hope you all enjoyed reading the first edition of “Inside the Blue and White,” I can’t wait for all future editions. Until next week!
