Welcome back to another awesome week inside the Blue and White! It has been a busy week in the Valley with school back in session, sports seasons kicking off and much more. Students are constantly on alert for new events; each day we have something new to look forward to.
The Lady Devil volleyball team has been on a roll, beating Houlka at home and then traveling to Houlka and Winona, winning in straight sets! The Lady Devils are under new head coach Gunner Nichols.
Although the season started with a rough three game losing streak, the Lady Devils are turning things around with a 3-3 record. Their next game will be held in the Water Valley gymnasium against Horn Lake on Aug. 20.

The annual ‘Meet the Blue Devils’ will be held on Friday, Aug. 21. The cheer, volleyball, golf, band and football teams will be recognized, starting at 6:30 p.m. Also, the Water Valley High School football team will be scrimmaging against West Tallahatchie around 7 p.m. I encourage everyone to come out and support all the teams. The entry fee is $5.
Aside from sports, Water Valley is excited to introduce new programs to offer students. Students are now able to take driver’s education with Coach McCory, and he is already helping students tremendously! Senior Kimora Anderson achieved her driver’s license and sophomore Easton Newman earned his learner’s permit.
One more program that I think will be beneficial in the future is the Work-Based Learning program. This is not only helpful to seniors of Water Valley High School, but also to employers in Water Valley. Essentially, the program gives seniors the chance to work and attend high school at the same time. Students must reach a minimum of 140 work hours.
Homecoming is approaching at Water Valley High School, and campaigns have begun. Voting will begin soon, and I cannot wait to see who is nominated!
The senior class has been busy filling out college applications, having meetings and bugging Mrs. Chandler, our beloved counselor, about everything. Soon, college essays will be due, we will have application day and transcripts will be sent, but people were not kidding when they said it would be a busy year.
Other students are busy starting dual-credit assignments through Northwest Mississippi Community College, completing essays or taking one of Mrs. Smith’s infamous chemistry tests.
Regardless, students have been working hard and showing off their dedication, even though we all know it can be hard at times. Most students are looking forward to having a long Labor Day weekend for some much-needed rest.
Thankfully, these first few weeks of school have been a breeze for most, but I promise to let you all know otherwise. I hope everyone enjoyed reading this week’s edition of Inside the Blue and White, and I look forward to many more busy weeks ahead.
