WATER VALLEY — Yalobusha County voters who qualify to cast an absentee ballot can begin voting in person Monday, Sept. 21, ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.
Circuit Clerk Daryl Burney said voters may cast absentee ballots at the circuit clerk’s offices in Water Valley and Coffeeville.
Mississippi does not offer no-excuse early voting. Voters must meet one of the qualifications established under state law to cast an absentee ballot, and Burney said those requirements have not changed for this year’s election.
Among those who qualify are voters who will be outside their county on Election Day, those required to work or be on call while polls are open, voters age 65 or older and those with a temporary or permanent physical disability that makes voting at the polls a substantial hardship or could pose a danger to themselves or others.
Students, teachers and school administrators whose studies or employment require them to be away from their county on Election Day may also qualify, along with certain spouses and dependents. Parents, spouses or dependents who will be with a hospitalized disabled person outside the county or more than 50 miles from home may also be eligible.
Most absentee voters cast their ballots in person at the circuit clerk’s office. Those eligible to vote by mail include voters temporarily living outside the county, voters age 65 or older and those with qualifying physical disabilities.
The deadline to vote absentee in person is noon Saturday, Oct. 31. The circuit clerk’s offices will also be open from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday, Oct. 24, and Oct. 31 for absentee voting.
Mail-in absentee ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received by the circuit clerk’s office by Nov. 10.
