Hello everyone, and welcome back to another awesome week inside the Blue and White! It has been a busy one here in the Valley, with big wins on the field and the court, a field trip to Oxford and plenty of school spirit to go around. Let me fill you in on everything that’s been happening.
The Lady Devil volleyball team keeps rolling, picking up another district win against Strayhorn this week. The team has been working hard all season, and it’s paying off — every win on the court is proof of that effort.
Water Valley eighth-graders Charlee McCormick and Casi Ostrander show their school spirit during Pajama Day at WVHS Friday. Students dressed in pajamas to “put the Pirates to sleep” ahead of the Blue Devils’ game against Coffeeville.
Friday night was a big one for Water Valley football. The Blue Devils took on Coffeeville in the Railroad Rivalry, and let me tell you — they showed up. The Devils rolled to a 43-14 win, keeping the Railroad Trophy at home. After falling behind early, Water Valley took control and pulled away for the win.
The school spirit didn’t stop at the players, either. Friday was pajama day at WVHS, and the student body showed up in full force to “put the Pirates to sleep” before the game. Between the onesies, the robes and the school pride, the energy in the halls was unmatched. I think it worked — the Pirates sure looked sleepy on the field.
Earlier in the week, the senior class took a field trip to the University of Mississippi on Thursday. It was a great chance for everyone to get a feel for campus, get a look at college life and start picturing themselves in Oxford. Between the tours and the walk around the Grove, I’d say it was a day well spent.
We’ve got some well-deserved recognition to celebrate this week. Paisley Blakley was named CTE Student of the Month. She’s enrolled in Contemporary Health with Coach Nichols. We also want to congratulate our Students of the Month: Isaiah Woodard, Joy Walton, Kanaudia Smith and Joseph Reeves. Great job to all of you.
Over in the ag department, the agriculture classes got a special visit from Farm Bureau, which came by to present a farm safety lesson for students. It’s always good to see our CTE programs getting hands-on learning that students can actually use.
Looking ahead, there’s a lot to mark on your calendars. The Lady Devil volleyball team has a home district game against East Union on Thursday — make plans to be there and show your support! Then on Friday night, the football team heads to Eupora for a road game.
