Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week inside the Blue and White! It’s been a busy week here in the Valley, so let me catch you up.
It was a tough week on the football field. The team lost to Nanih Waiya at home in a hard game. The Devils fought until the end, but it just wasn’t our night. Now sitting at 2-3, the team is ready to move on and bounce back for district play. There’s a lot of season left, and I know they’ll come back strong.
The volleyball teams also had a rough week, losing to Horn Lake and East Union. It’s been a hard stretch, but this group hasn’t given up. They’re sitting third in Class 2A Region 2 with a 2-3 district record.
But there was a lot to celebrate this week, too. Congratulations to senior Adeline Douglas, who was crowned the 2026 Watermelon Queen! Addy is a dear friend of mine, and I’m so proud of her. The honor also comes with the Jo Henderson Lewis Scholarship, which is named in honor of my late mother. Seeing Addy carry my mom’s name with that scholarship means so much to me. I can’t wait to see what her future holds!
The Water Valley Band also did great this week, taking second place in their division for color guard, percussion and band! We are so proud of all their hard work.
Homecoming week is here! Dr. Vicki Person wants to welcome all of our community friends, guests and visitors to the homecoming parade on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 5:30 p.m. Line the streets of Main Street and help cheer on all of our homecoming participants. This year’s theme is “Let the Stars Come Out,” a Hollywood red carpet theme, and we are super excited about it. So join us Thursday, wear your Blue and White, and let’s make it a night to remember! Friday night, the football team will host the Bruce Trojans at Bobby Clark Field at 7 p.m. Homecoming court will be presented Friday night as well.
Speaking of homecoming, one of the best parts is getting dressed up for it! Whether you’re wearing your favorite blue and white outfit, a fancy dress or a sharp suit, homecoming is the night to look your best and show your school pride. Don’t be afraid to go all out — this is our chance to shine like the stars, since our theme is “Let the Stars Come Out.” Remember, showing school spirit isn’t just about what you wear. It’s about cheering loud, smiling big and standing together as one Valley family. So get your outfits ready, grab your friends and let’s show everyone what it means to be a Water Valley Devil!
Then, right after homecoming, fall break is coming up Oct. 5-9. Make sure you’re ready for that much-needed break — we’ve earned it!
Well, that wraps up this week in the Valley. From a tough night on the field to a crown well deserved, from band honors to homecoming right around the corner, it’s been a week full of heart. Be sure to come back next week for more news from WVHS. Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you all next week!
