Mt. Liberty News
By Angela Bratton
Bro. Grant began with references to Revelation 2:2, 9, 13 and 19, as well as Revelation 3:8 and 15. In these verses, Jesus is speaking to six churches: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Philadelphia and Laodicea. In each of these verses, Jesus tells the churches, “I know thy works.”
God sees what we do. We cannot hide anything from Him.
Our Bible verses of focus were Revelation 3:15-16: “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.”
We tend to reside in the lukewarm. It’s our comfort zone. We want the perks without the works. But we need to be 100% Christian.
You can’t be partially married, half on a plane and half off. You are either saved or lost, redeemed or condemned, forgiven or unforgiven.
We go throughout our lives with one foot in the church and one foot in the world. We want to cherry-pick Bible verses we like and interpret the uncomfortable verses to fit our lifestyle so as not to hurt feelings or offend.
God calls us to serve. And He doesn’t call us to serve in comfort. As the saying goes, God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called.
Choose this day whom you will serve.
Our special music this week was “He Knows My Name,” sung by Opal and me, with Opal providing accompaniment on the keyboard. God knows us and He sees everything we do. I pray that all I say and do honors and glorifies God.
Now What’s Buzzing in the Mount Liberty Hives? Backroads to dirt roads, find out Mt. Liberty’s breaking news:
Jonathan and I enjoyed our vacation week in Gatlinburg. We were blessed to see five black bears on our first day. I appreciate Leigh writing the article for me in my absence last week.
We all mourn the passing of Mr. Binnie Turnage. He was probably the most honorable Christian man I was blessed to know. He always had a smile and was ready to pray with you in times of trouble. He would open the drugstore late in the evening or early in the morning if you needed a prescription for an ill child. He loved like Jesus. May we all aspire to do the same.
Remember our All Saints’ Day Festival, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. Come join us for food and fellowship as we honor all the saints, martyrs and others who lost or gave their lives for Christ and are in the presence of God. We welcome everyone to our festival and hope we can laugh, fellowship and praise the Lord with you. We might even be able to talk our musicians into having a picking circle for live music. God bless and love to all, Leigh Anne.
Mount Liberty Church will host its annual Fall Fest on Saturday, Oct. 24, beginning at 5 p.m. at 603 County Road 284 in Water Valley.
The event will feature hot dogs, a chili contest, hayrides, games, prizes and a cakewalk. The church invites everyone in the community to come out and enjoy an evening of fall fun and fellowship.
If you are looking for a church to call home, please come to Mount Liberty. Sunday school starts at 10 a.m., with worship services at 11 a.m. and evening services at 6 p.m. We welcome everyone to come and worship with us. We’re not just a church, we’re family.
