Aldermen Handle Routine Business

WATER VALLEY – City officials breezed through a brief agenda during the monthly meeting held Nov. 3. First on the agenda was Main Street Manager Mickey Howley, who updated city official on various events including the recently held pumpkin illumination. 

Howley reported the opening for Forced Move, a horror film shot in Water Valley last year, was held Nov. 5 at the Malco Theater in Oxford. Howley said the Water Valley Police Department and Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Depart-ment provided assistance during last year’s shooting of the film, and several local faces are visible in scene shots. 

He also said the annual Holiday Open House is scheduled Saturday, Nov. 14, on Main Street.

Howley’s final item was a report on a statewide conference scheduled in Water Valley on June 2 and 3, 2016, when the Mississippi Heritage Trust will host the historic preservation conference.

“It’s a big deal, we expect about 200 people. It’s the first time they have come to a town as small as we are,” Howley said.

Following the Main Street manager’s report, aldermen voted to authorize City Clerk Vivian Snider to advertise for bids for culverts and the town’s depository. Each year Water Valley solicits bids for banking the town’s money, and the banking institution submitting the highest interest rate provides financial services for the city.
