PARCC Tests Scores From 2014-15 Show Positives
Jacob Stone was recognized by the Water Valley School Board for achieving a perfect score on the English II PARCC testing during the 2014-15 school year. Board president Taylor Trusty presented Stone a certificate for his accomplishment. His English teacher, Sim Ramirez, was also recognized.

WATER VALLEY– The Water Valley School District trustees recognized a high school student for achieving a perfect score on the English II PARCC testing. Jacob Stone scored a perfect 850 during testing in the 2014-15 school year on a test designed to measure college and career ready standards across the nation. The data was released by the Mississippi Department of Education on Nov. 5 and among topics discussed during the Nov. 16 school board meeting.
Overall the English score for Water Valley High School was 754, nine points higher than the state average and 18 points higher than the national average. The test results rated the high school eighth in the state out of 145 districts tested, based on the pass rate. The district also rated 41st out of 145 districts, based on the students scoring proficient or higher on the test.
“Outstanding,” reported Dr. Michael McInnis during his report on the test data.
In Algebra I, the overall score for the district was 734, which mirrored the national average and was three points higher than the state average. The score rated Water Valley High School 51st out of 145 districts tested in the state, based on pass rate, and 55th out of 145 based on students scoring proficient on the Algebra I test.
Students in grades 3-8 across the state also participated in the PARCC testing. Those results will be released next month. The testing back in the spring will be the only time Mississippi will administer the test designed by the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness of Colleges and Careers.
When testing for the current school year starts in 2016, districts in Mississippi will give a test custom-written by Questar Assessment.
