TVA Seeks Input For Route For New Transmission Line

WATER VALLEY – Tennessee Valley Authority is seeking public input for a proposed 100-foot right-of-way for a new transmission system that will stretch from Oxford to Coffeeville. Much of the route, north and south of Water Valley, will parallel existing rights-of-way, but an approximate six-mile stretch will run east of Water Valley affecting numerous properties.
TVA has proposed multiple routes for the six-mile stretch of right-of-way, starting at the Lafayette-Yalobusha county line, about one mile east of Hwy. 7. The proposed routes all direct the new line east of Water Valley before turning southwest near Hwy. 32 and County Road 223 and connecting with an existing utility right-of-way that runs south for 10 miles to the Coffeeville substation.
The new right-of-way easement purchase is expected to be completed by the spring of 2017. The transmission line could be completed by 2020, and will support new load growth in the Grenada and Resolute areas of Mississippi.
“The project is moving pretty fast,” TVA spokesman Chris Stanley explained during public meeting held March 3 at the Yalobusha Country Club.
“The more participation that we have in our projects on the front end, the more successful we are with the property owners,” Stanley added.
TVA provided detailed maps at the meeting, identifying the property owners in the proposed routes to help determine the route that will have the least overall impact.
TVA also reported that the new right-of-way easement purchase is expected to be completed by the spring of 2017, and the new transmission line could be completed by 2020 and will resolve voltage and thermal loading issues in the Oxford area as well as support new load growth in the Grenada and Resolute areas of Mississippi.
