School Addresses Gun Incident At DES

WATER VALLEY – School officials report a gun found on the sidewalk at Davidson Elementary School Wednesday afternoon belonged to a school employee who had an enhanced carry permit to legally possess the weapon on school grounds.

Superintendent Dr. Michael McInnis told the Herald the pistol apparently became dislodged from employee’s holster and fell to the ground. McInnis said the district took disciplinary steps to address the school employee’s negligence as a personnel matter.

McInnis also told the Herald the gun was discovered by a student, who took responsible steps that included instructing classmates to watch the gun while she went to alert the school’s law enforcement officer.
