Aldermen Receive Bids For Airport Work

WATER VALLEY – Aldermen took a pair of bids under advisement for the installation of a fuel system and cantilever gate at the Water Valley Municipal Airport during the May 2 meeting. Rebel Services LLC was the apparent low bidder, submitting a price of $189,796.50 for the labor, material and equipment to perform the job. Double S. Inc submitted the second bid at $204,500.
Mayor Larry Hart recommended the bids be reviewed by engineer Karl Grubb prior to awarding the job.
Other business conducted during the brief meeting included:
• Heard the monthly report from Main Street Water Valley Main Street Manager that included comments on the new location for El Charrito Restaurant and Grill. Howley noted the improvements to the Main Street building are tremendous and added that the restaurant has been a “big force” downtown for years. Howley also reminded city officials about the Mississippi Heritage Trust Preservation statewide conference scheduled June 2-3 in Water Valley. Howley said the conference is expected to bring 100 people to town.
“It will take place over two days, everywhere from Crawdad Hole to Bozarts Gallery to BTC to Yalobusha Brewery,” Howley added.
Howley also noted a concert is scheduled June 4 at the Old School Theater in Melonvine Marketplace, the building also known as the old Jeff Davis School on South Main Street. Howley told aldermen that Foster Music and Arts will have ongoing events at the new venue.
“This is something that could bring people in, they could have dinner in the Valley and then go to the concert afterwards,” he added. “It’s a great venue.
• Appointed Ora Polk as a commissioner for the Water Valley Housing Authority for a five year term. Polk was already serving a partial term after aldermen appointed her to fill a vacancy.
