Henry L. Pierce

SENATOBIA – Henry L. Pierce, age 89, of Senatobia passed peacefully to his heavenly home on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born December 2, 1934, in Water Valley to D.E. Pierce, Sr. and Ruth (Littleton) Pierce.

He was a great man who loved God, his children, and grandchildren. Everyone who knew him loved him. You would often find Henry sitting in front of his television watching Ole Miss football or the Atlanta Braves. Henry was also a huge John Wayne fan and would sit and watch movies with his grandsons. He loved his grand-dogs, Gus and Apollo, and would often sneak them snacks when he thought no one was looking.

Henry is survived by his children Melissa (Bruce) Paul, Pamela Burton and Rhonda Lamp; his grandchildren, Henry “Hank” (Shelby) Burton, David (Delia) Burton, Caleb (Shiloh) Lamp and Ian (Sarah) Lamp; eight great grandchildren, his brother, Roy Pierce; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 22, at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until noon. The funeral service will follow at noon. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Seven Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Jean Turner

COFFEEVILLE – Barbara Jean Turner of Coffeeville passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2024 as a result of liver cancer. She was 67.

Barbara was born January 31, 1957 to Howard and Estelle (Taylor) Phillips in Hernando. She graduated from Hernando High School in 1975 and completed two years of college at Northwest Mississippi Community College.

On June 11, 1977, Barbara married Danny Lee Turner of Coffeeville. They were married for 45 years until his death in May, 2022. Although she didn’t have any children of her own, every child that she ever had contact with was treated as her own. No child ever came to her home and left empty-handed. Through the years, she cared for many children from the Coffeeville area, some from the time they were in diapers until they were 10 years old or older. Barbara truly cared for children.

She didn’t just watch them play; she educated them and disciplined them. Children were the love of her life.

Barbara was a faithful member of the Coffeeville Church of Christ. She was not only loyal to the congregation but an active and dedicated member in the work of the congregation. She served in any way she could, especially as a children’s Bible class teacher for many years.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband; her parents; her sister, Sandy Phillips of Hernando; and her brother, Ricky Phillips of Nesbit. She is survived by her sister, Debbie Phillips of Florida; and her brother Darrell (Guy) Phillips of Southaven.

The funeral service was held Saturday, August 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service. Visitation was held 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery near Coffeeville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization Barbara felt strongly about.
