Hello everyone, and welcome back to Inside the Blue and White! I’m so glad you’re back reading more news from the students at Water Valley High School. We have some exciting stories this week, including breaking state records, archery going to state, and more.
Our powerlifting team competed at state, and they represented Water Valley incredibly well. Senior Lailah Harris placed first in her weight class, breaking three state records in bench press, squat, and overall total for her division. What an amazing accomplishment!
Seventh-grader Charlee Golson also had a great performance, placing third in her weight class as an entry-level lifter.
Other athletes who placed were:
Miles Buford, second place; DJ Bounds, third place; Jay Hervey, honorable mention
Congratulations to all of these athletes for their hard work and for representing Water Valley so well!
The Science Department held the Region VII Science Fair on Thursday, March 26. Several students from Water Valley High School competed and did an outstanding job with their projects.
Students who placed were Shane French (first place), Robert Webb (third place), Natalie Hernandez (third place), Starlit Walton (second place), Cohen Hart (first place) and Jay Hervey (first place).

One of the student projects compared homemade perfume to store-bought perfumes, and the results showed that store-bought perfumes lasted longer. All of these students qualified to compete in the State Science Fair on April 9.
The archery team hit the road Tuesday to compete in the North Half in Starkville at the Horse Park. The team placed fourth overall, and everyone shot well and represented Water Valley with pride. The top shooters for the team were Bella Humphreys with a score of 278, and Matthew Surrette with a 272. Adalynn McCluskey also had an outstanding performance and made the All-Star team. She will now compete with the seventh- and eighth-grade All-Stars, and we are all cheering her on. With state coming up soon, the team has been practicing hard and getting ready for the competition.
Some exciting news for the basketball team! Coach Leon Harris has been named District 2-2A Coach of the Year. In his first year coaching at Water Valley High School, Coach Harris has led the team with vision, discipline, and heart all season long. The culture, the standard, and the success of this team reflect his strong leadership, and he is already making a huge impact on the program.
Aaden Reed was named District 2-2A Player of the Year and All-District. Aaden has made a big statement across the district this season. His leadership, consistency, and dominance on the court showed that he is one of the best players in the district. This honor is well deserved.
Kylan Armstrong was also named All-District. Kylan has been a key part of the team’s success this season. His effort, toughness, and ability to step up in big moments helped push the team to another level.
Shadai Freeman earned All-District honors as well. Shadai showed what it means to compete at a high level, and his hard work and dedication throughout the season paid off.
Christian Paten was also named All-District. Christian made his presence known all season long with big plays, clutch moments, and the little things that help a team win.
Congratulations to these players and Coach Harris for representing Water Valley so well this season!
