Three Arrested In Road Block

Three Water Valley men face felony drug charges following a routine driver’s license checkpoint last Thursday, Sept. 6. The checkpoint was held at the intersection of Stevens and Jones streets according to Water Valley Police Lt. Rick McCuan.

    Ricky Caldwell, 36, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, which was alleged crack, after stopping at the checkpoint at 6:59 p.m. Almost 20 minutes later, Anthony Gooch, 25, and Cayce Telford, 26, were arrested at the same checkpoint. Telford and Gooch each face a charge of possession of a controlled substance, which was alleged powder cocaine.

    Other arrests made during the last week include:

    • An arrest for disturbing the peace;

    • An arrest for DUI, first offense;

    • Three arrests for driving under suspension;

    • An arrest for disorderly conduct;

    • An arrest for disturbing the peace;

    • An arrest for possession of a controlled substance;

    • An arrest for simple domestic assault;

    • An arrest made for Batesville Police Department; and

    • Issued two citations for violation of the city’s noise ordinance, stemming from loud music in a motor vehicle.

    The city also participated in a statewide Click It or Ticket program from Aug. 17 to Sept. 3. During this time, officers made four drug arrests, one arrest for reckless driving, issued 40 speeding tickets, made five arrests for driving under suspension, made seven DUI arrests, and wrote 41 seatbelt violations. Two felony arrests were also made and two fugitives were apprehended, according to McCuan.
