Unemployment in Yalobusha County dropped to 6.7 percent in November. That is more than a percentage point under the 7.9 posted during the same period the previous year, according to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
The state average for November was 5.7 percent which is also a drop from the 6.3 percent average in November 2005.
Mississippi’s resident based labor force rose by 20,300 and the jobless count fell by almost 1,100, the MDES reported.
Yalobusha County’s labor forced numbered 5,750 in November with 390 unemployed. The labor force increased by 170 over the past year.
Of the five surrounding counties only Lafayette posted a significantly lower unemployment rate of 4 percent. Grenada County was only one-tenth of a percent lower that Yalobusha.
The national unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) stood at 4.7 percent in November, which is a two-tenths increase over the past year.
