A pulpwood truck overturned on Hwy. 32 east near the Pine Valley community Monday afternoon, Mar. 10. The driver received cuts and bruises in the crash, but was not seriously injured, according to emergency responders on the scene. Looking over the damge are (from left) Herbie Rogers, Chief of the Velma Fire Department, Bess Simmons; Brandon Wilbourn; and Amy McCachren, of the Pine Valley Fire Department. Luther Coleman (right) was following behind the truck when it left the road. Minutes after responders arrived at the crash, they were called to a house fire at 4950 County Road 220. A grass fire had spread to the unoccupied home.

Grass fires were a problem most of last week for county firefighters. Wednesday afternoon it took several hours to control a large grass fire west of Coffeeville around the County Road 432 area. Equipment and emergency responders from Velma, Pine Valley and Coffeeville were called out to fight the blaze. Volunteers from other departments were also on the scene as well as Mississippi Forestry personnel. Rain at the end of the week cut down on the number of fires.
