WATER VALLEY – April 22 is Special Election day, according to Yalobusha County Circuit Clerk Daryl Burney.
“This day was designated for a special election to fill the unexpired term of Congressman Roger Wicker for the First Congressional District,” Burney said.
Wicker resigned after being appointed by Governor Haley Barbour to the Senate seat left open by the early retirement of Trent Lott. The winner of this election will take over immediately and serve until January of 2009.
The clerk’s office will be open the two Saturdays before the election from 8 to 12 a.m. for absentee voting. If you want to vote and need information, the Circuit Clerk’s office is here to help you, Burney emphasized.
Telephone numbers are 473-1341 for the Water Valley office and 675-8187 for the Coffeeville office.
The deadline has passed to register to vote for this special election, but you still have time to register to vote for the general election in November, Burney added.
