Yalobusha’s February Unemployment Is Down, Follows State Trend

Yalobusha County’s unemployment rate for February is down from the previous year and follows the state trend.
The February figure of 8 percent is over a half a point lower than the February 2007 figure of 8.7 percent. The average for the past five years is 8.3 percent, according to statistics from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
The MDES reported that Mississippi’s 5.9 percent unemployment for February is down from last year’s February figure of 6.5. The national rate of 5.4 percent is up from one year ago when the rate was 4.9 percent.
Yalobusha County’s labor force in February was reported by the MDES at 5,450 with 440 unemployed.
Neighboring Lafayette County had the second lowest rate in the state at 4.2 percent. The lowest unemployment in the state was Rankin County’s 3.9 percent.
Historically the unemployment rate has shown no definite trend when comparing the change from February to March of each year,” said Wayne Gasson, Bureau Director, Labor Market Information for MDES.
