A big moment in the life of Water Valley will be our Sesquicentennial

Schedule of Events for Water Valley Founders Day – April 19, 2008

6:30 AM – Pancake Breakfast sponsored by the Lions Club in the meeting room of the Water Valley Casey Jones Railroad Museum.

8:30 AM  – 5K Run, 2-mile walk, 1-mile kids fun run.
Sponsored by Renasant Bank. The races and walk will begin at City Park by Rensant Bank at 1100 Central Street.

10:30 AM – Bicycle Parade. Register that day.

11:00 AM – Opening Ceremonies at the Pavilion in Railroad Park will include a Style Show featuring fashions from 1858-2008.
   
12:00 PM– Baby Crawl
Register that day or pre-register with Alexe Van Beuren at 473-0947 and alexe.pvb@gmail.com

1:00 PM –Sack Race
Register that day or pre-register with Cliff Lawson 473-3690 and placers@ridgenet.net.

1:30 PM – Bike Parade on Main Street
Register that day

2:00 PM – Checkers Tournament
Categories are:
K-3rd grade
4-6 grades
7-9 grades
10-12 grades
Older
Denise Sunderland will hold registration that day. 

2:00 PM – Dominoes Tournament
Register that day.

2:30 PM – Pet Parade
Sponsored by the Water Valley Junior Auxiliary. Contestants may entered in up to three categories.

Best Costume
Largest Pet
Smallest Pet
Most Unusual Pet
Best Trick

Judging will begin at 2:00. The Pet Parade will start at 2:30. A registration form is available on the website and can be printed and handed in that day or forms will be available for registration on Founders Day. For more information contact Amanda Edwards at  934-3394 after 5 pm

3:00 PM –  Hula Hoop Contest
Linda Mayor will register contestants that day.
   
3:30 PM – Egg and Spoon Relay Race
Sponsored by Seven Oaks
Nell Jobe will register contestants that day.

4:00 PM – Pudding Eating Contest
Sponsored by the Larson’s Piggly Wiggly
The Water Valley Lions will register contestants that day.

4:30 PM – Popcorn Tossing/ Eating Contest
Sponsored by Renasant Bank
Bill Taylor will register contestants that day.

5:00 PM  – Horseshoe Tossing Contest/Washer Toss
Eddie Ray and Cliff Lawson will register contestants that day.

8:00 – Fireworks Show
Sponsored by Mechanics Bank

 Entertainment on the Railroad Park Pavilion

12:00 – Water Valley Community Band
1:00 – Fiddlin’ Rooster Farm Band
2:00 – Point of Origin
3:00 – Too Many Drivers
4:00 – PushIIShove
5:00 – 4Evermore

Entertainment on the Main Street Stage:

Beginning at 6:30 Braden Gray and Loose Gravel will
perform on a stage that will be set up on Main Street
just for Founders Day.

Following their performance, there will be a Fireworks
Show sponsored by Mechanics Bank.

After the fireworks, Thompson-Ward will take the
stage.

Additional Activities and Displays

Birthday Cake Contest
Cakes will be displayed at the Water Valley Main Street Association at 207 Main Street.
Contest information and registration form are available on the website and can be printed and handed in that day. Registration forms will also be available on Founders Day. For additional information contract Ramona Bernard at  473-9851 and ramona.bernard@gmail.com.

Photo Contest

Church Softball Tournament at the Crawford Sports Complex
Sponsored by the Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce
For information contact Ron Hart at 473-7410.

Antique Car Show at Shuffied Park
Open to all specialty cars and motorcycles.  There will be no admission fee or registration fee.  Donations will be accepted and all proceeds will go to the Baptist Children’s Village of Water Valley. For additional information, contact Darrell Martin at 561-5163 or Odie Shuffield at 473-1892.

Quilt Show and Quilting Demonstration at the Mechanics Bank Community Room.
Sponsored by the Yalobusha County Homemakers. For information contact Pat Brooks at 473-2142.

The Kudzu Preservation Society of Water Valley is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and Mississippi Federation of Women’s Clubs. They will display crafts made from kudzu.

The Yalobusha County Historical Society will have information on the history of Water Valley and Yalobusha County.
