Still Available – Founders Day Postmark

Postal Service employee Teresa Brown cancels a customer envelope at the Casey Jones Museum postal station during Founders Day. Although the postal station is no longer open, the cancellation is still available from the Water Valley Post Office.

WATER VALLEY – The pictorial postmark to commemorate Founders Day will be available through May 19, according to postal service officials.

The postmark features the eagle from the old Bank of Water Valley along with the dates, 1858 and 2008, as well as the April 19 issue date.

“As a community service, the Postal Service offers pictorial postmarks to commemorate local events celebrated in communities throughout the nation,” Water Valley Postmaster Sherman Hillhouse said.

Persons wishing to obtain the postmark may submit a mail order request.

All requests must include a stamped envelope or post-card bearing at least the minimum First-Class Mail postage. Items submitted for postmark may not include postage issued after the date of the requested postmark.

Customers wishing to obtain a postmark should affix stamps to any envelope or postcard of their choice, address the envelope or postcard to themselves or others, insert a card of postcard thickness in envelopes for sturdiness, and tuck in the flap.

Place the envelope or postcard in a larger envelope and address it to: Pictorial postmarks, Founders Day Station, Postmaster, 501 N Main St, Water Valley, MS 38965-9998.
