Clerk Urges Voters To Participate May 13

WATER VALLEY – Circuit Clerk Daryl Burney is urging Yalobusha voters to participate in next Tuesday’s runoff after just over 10 percent of the county’s registered voters participated in the special election on April 22.

Tuesday’s election will decide whether Democrat Travis Childers or Republican Greg Davis will represent the First Congressional District for the next seven months.

Neither candidate got 50 percent of the vote in the April 22 special election. In Yalobusha County only 1,077 ballots were cast.

“The candidates are working this county hard because our turnout was so low,” Burney said. “We could be the pivoting point of this election, and your one vote could make the difference,” Burney continued.

Both courthouses will be open until noon Saturday for absentee voting.
