According to MDOT District Engineer Richard Allen, the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin performing bridge replacements on Highway 315 from Highway 7 to the Calhoun County line in Yalobusha County. (Actually the Lafayette County line as pointed out by our readers. The original news release (click on) is on the second page at this link.)
Beginning May 27, construction crews will be performing bridge replacements along a 3.5 mile section of Highway 315 from Valley Animal Hospital to the Otoucalofa Baptist Church. On June 2, crews will close Highway 315 in order to begin performing bridge work in the above mentioned areas. The north end of Highway 315, just past Valley Animal Hospital, will be closed while crews begin making repairs in that area first, which will allow local traffic access from the south.
Following the repairs of the bridge at Valley Animal Hospital, the south end of Highway 315 will also be closed near Otoucalofa Baptist Church. The bridge at Valley Animal Hospital will be opened to allow local traffic access from the north. All road closures on this stretch of Highway 315 will be completed by August 2.
According to Allen, J.J. Ferguson Sand & Gravel, Inc., is the contractor awarded this project.
“Providing a safe intermodal transportation network for the people of Mississippi cannot be done without maintenance and construction being performed on the state’s infrastructure, Allen said. “Crews will be working expeditiously and continuously to minimize the period of closures and delays while performing bridge replacements on this project. Our number one goal is to maintain the state’s highway system by making it secure for the traveling public.”
Motorists are asked to drive with caution and take necessary detours to avoid the closures.
