WATER VALLEY – Homecoming weekend kicks off with a bang – or at least a whole lot of noise – Thursday evening with a pep rally on Main Street.

The event will be held at the pavilion beginning at 6 p.m., according to Kim Jones of the Water Valley Main Street Association, sponsors of the rally. “We’re encouraging all businesses and home owners to decorate in blue and white to show their support for the Blue Devils.”

Students at Water Valley High School have already been getting into the spirit by dressing up in a theme each day this week. Monday was professional day; Tuesday was “twinkies” day; Wednesday tacky; Thursday nerds; and Friday will be the more traditional blue and white day.

The nerds will be honored at the rally Thursday with a parade across the pavilion and they will also help out the cheerleaders by leading a cheer. The nerd receiving the loudest applause during the parade with be honored with a bag of Nerds brand candy, Jones said.

The homecoming court will also be introduced and includes senior maids Yosheka Conard, Marli Craven, India Pritchard, and Shaniqua Wesley. Freshman maid is is Davelin Woodard; sophomore maid is Ashley Phillips; and junior maid is Ashley Haas.

Come early and have a hot dog or hamburger with the Boosters Club starting around 5 p.m.
