Herald Racks Up Awards In Better Newspaper Contest

JACKSON – Herald graphic artist Melody Smith received five awards in the advertising division of the Better Newspaper Contest at the Mississippi Press Association’s Mid-Winter Conference in Jackson on Saturday.

    Smith  was awarded four second place awards and a third place award for her outstanding work in a field that included almost 2,000 contest entries from weekly and daily newspapers across the state. The entries are judge in different divisions, according to the circulation of the newspaper.

    Melody swept the best series of ads category, earning a second place and third place finish. She also received a second place award for the best service ad, a second place award for best political ad and a second place award for best color service ad.

    “We are proud of what Melody has accomplished and feel fortunate to have talented graphic designer to help us produce a high-quality publication, week after week,” editor David Howell said. “These awards confirm that our advertisers can rely on Melody to communicate their message effectively, creatively and memorably.”
